A DESIGN PRACTICE

A female founded studio and store focusing on crafting publications with cultural institutions, publishing houses and makers. What keeps our cogs turning is creating work that is simply beautiful, with an eye on the past and a pull towards the future.

WHO, WHAT WHY

  • I use each project as an excuse to deep dive into research, crafting a response from the new found knowledge. Constantly exploring what a 'publication' is and how the boundaries of this can be pushed. My body of work is concept driven, using varied processes to form final outcomes.

I always have a reason for things to exist, no, really. I create visual systems that are so intrinsically linked to the research there’s often a reason for every decision within our projects, I'm inspired by everything.

Some you might never know about...

  • a design practice was founded by art director alice daisy pomfret as an evolution of her previous work and projects. Firstly, and quite simply adp and Alice share the same initials meaning there’s a touch of Alice in everything we do. But there’s more, our name references three core elements, explained below:

    A - short for Alice, of course…

design - purposefully non-descript to allow us to evolve and work in new territories

practice - a firm believer of practice makes perfect, this is our commitment to educate and experiment forever. Alice herself teaches on the Design for Publishing course at Norwich University of the Arts and is committed to educating future generations.

  • I'm always finding new publications and design-led objects made by either friends or inspirations to me, and the store is our way of supporting and shouting from the rooftops. We love to share new finds and be involved in their story. Community over competition, always.

TESTIMONIALS

“...As a Rankin collaborator she {Alice} has designed several publications alongside graphic and print design for the bumper 10th anniversary edition of our magazine Hunger. A true rising star in the UK design scene...”

Rankin, Photographer

“... what I admire the most about Alice is her bold, fearless attitude. She dives into things, follows her gut, and learns as she goes. Her instinct is to make good shit, not wait around for somebody else’s permission. Alice is a living reminder of what’s possible when you just fucking do it.”
