the who, the what, the why

the who

alice daisy pomfret is an art director, founder and educator living and working in the fields of Norwich. I founded a design practice as an evolution of my previous work and projects. Founded on a belief that ideas and craft are the unsung heroes of great work.

Alongside my practice I live a fulfilling life exploring the world and curating/collecting design led objects - yes, I have a lot of nice chairs.

the what

I use each project as an excuse to deep dive into research, crafting a response from the new found knowledge. Constantly exploring what a 'publication' is and how the boundaries of this can be pushed. My body of work is concept driven, using varied processes to form final outcomes.

I always have a reason for things to exist, no, really. I create visual systems that are so intrinsically linked to the research there’s often a reason for every decision within my projects, the smallest of details can spark an idea for me. Some you might never know about...

the why

I’m often asked why I specialise in crafting publications, so here’s the answer. Imagine, it’s Sunday morning, you’re sat in your favourite chair with a great drink on the side and you’re about to escape into a book for the next however many hours - bliss. In an ever digital world publications can offer true escapism, they interact with all of your senses, the touch of the paper, the smell of the glue, the sound of the page turning, an immersive experience that only you encounter. No cookies, no tracking, no pop up ads.

Publications allow space for a conversation between the designer and reader to exist, you’re in control of their journey, how they get there and what they feel along the way. Treat them gently, or annoy them - it’s your choice.

“...As a Rankin collaborator she {Alice} has designed several publications alongside graphic and print design for the bumper 10th anniversary edition of our magazine Hunger. A true rising star in the UK design scene...”

Rankin, Photographer

“... what I admire the most about Alice is her bold, fearless attitude. She dives into things, follows her gut, and learns as she goes. Her instinct is to make good shit, not wait around for somebody else’s permission. Alice is a living reminder of what’s possible when you just fucking do it.”
